So, you’ve decided to start up a business. Good one. Your major challenge now is how to make your business stand out.
You need to make it become the talk of the town.
You need to give a particular perception of your business so that people can see it in a particular light.
What you need to do my friend is to brand your business like a boss.
Your first step to achieving this is to get a name and presence for yourself.
Your personal brand is key to getting you the desired result for your business.
Take a good look at Richard Branson, many people know about Virgin Airways simply because of Richard Branson.
He became the star of his brand. Listen, you are the number one Brand Ambassador for your business.
Make your face known, be in the spotlight.
This is the time to strategically begin to work on your Social Media life.
Social Media is the easiest way to create a presence.
Its free, so all you need is just a great strategy to work it out.
Secondly, you should understand that to make the kind of noise you want to make, especially on a low budget, one thing that needs to be very dominant in your thinking is creativity.
You need to bring out your creative juices.
At this point, you should be thinking about how to pull a massive and crazy publicity stunt that would get people talking about you.
This is a very radical move and would require a good dose of brainstorming from you. Lemme help you understand my point.
Can you remember the Three Orange Men campaign by Mirinda several years back? Okay, that’s old, many of our younger peeps would not be able to relate to that example, lemme bring something much more current.
Coca Cola’s ‘Share a Coke’ campaign, Pepsi’s #NoShakinCarryGo stunt with Nigerian Music Artiste, Tekno.
Now, these are big brands.
Who said smaller brands like you can’t creatively get people talking about you.
Thirdly, events are another thing that can give you a presence.
This is how to go about it.
Sponsor events, support events, organize your own events.
Now, when I say organize your own event you might begin to think that I mean something very big and expensive and elaborate. No. That’s wrong.
You don’t need to spend so much to fix a small event.
You could organize a small talk-show, a roundtable discussion, a get-together, a breakfast meeting.
Understand that when doing this, it is important that your event is geared towards your niche/industry.
For example, if you’re a fashion designer, you could organize a small breakfast talk show and tag it “Dressing the New Generation of CEOs”.
Now just imagine bringing together about fifteen influential people who have a massive following on social media for a free breakfast meeting.
Get a photographer to cover the event, blast the pictures on your Social Media platforms, retweet the posts of your guests on their own platforms. Do a Press Release after the event, talk to some blogger friends to post it for you on their blog alongside pictures.
Now, this is a way to launch your business and make a whole lot of noise.
I once handled the launch of a Makeup brand some years back.
What we did was simple. I sent out invitations to five top female bloggers to come for a free makeover session, with pictures and finger food.
And yes, we had them come around and had fun and went back to blog about it.
