”Check People’s Bank Account Balances And Get Dismissed” – IGP Warns SARS – Inspector General of Police warns officials of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad F-SARS to stop checking the bank accounts details of anyone they come across.
Making a speech at a workshop on the reformed F-SARS in Owerri, Imo state, the IG also warned the F-SARS operatives to not check people’s phones and laptops unless there’s a court order or they are given instructions from the commissioner of police in charge of a state police command.
The IGP who was represented at the event by the Deputy commissioner of police in charge of the IGP’s X-Squad, Amaechi Elumelu, added that F-SARS operative who take on cases that are not associated with armed robbery and kidnapping would equally be dismissed from the Nigeria police force.
”Under the reformed F-SARS, it is illegal to search suspects phones, computers, or inquire about their bank account details without proper authorization. Henceforth, the F-SARS Commanders must get directives from the State Commissioners before invading people’s privacies. Any officer who disobeys will be dismissed.”
