2019: Donald Duke considers running for PresidentDonald Duke, former Governor of Cross River state, has said he is considering running as Nigeria’s President in 2019 although this is premised on what he describes as ‘the right circumstances.’

Duke also says it is high time Nigerians began to project the right people and with the right technical know-how to take charge of the country and lead it to the promised land.

The former governor spoke at the 3rd Mike Omotosho Annual Lecture in Abuja with the theme ‘Millennials as protagonists in Nation-building’ in Abuja.

Charging the youths to fully participate in the electoral process, he said this also includes getting their permanent voters card and sensitizing others ahead of 2019 instead of perpetually lamenting and looking for who to heap their problems upon.

“I hear young people ask why they spend hours queuing and casting their votes when, at the end of the day, their votes won’t count. I tell them that if when their parents conceived the, they never gave up on them considering the high mortality rate, so, why would they not take a chance in building this nation?

“In Nigeria, we had young leadership at one stage or the other. Even in our first republic, besides the likes of Awolowo and Tafawa Balewa, M.T Mbu was in his 20s when he became a minister.

“Gowon was 30 when he became head of state. It comes back to the disaster, therein, because most of them didn’t have experience in governance, which led us into civil war. We need the combination of both,” Duke told the youths at the lecture.
